Body and nervous system
Somatic Experiencing-informed therapy
Body-based awareness can help clients understand stress, overwhelm and regulation in a way that thinking alone often cannot.
Nervous system
The body tells part of the story
Many people understand their difficulties intellectually and still feel unable to change. Somatic Experiencing-informed work includes the body and nervous system so that therapy can address thoughts, emotions, activation, shutdown, impulses and the felt sense of safety.
The body may show the first signs of stress long before the mind has words for it: shallow breathing, tightness, restlessness, numbness, bracing or a sudden loss of clarity. These signals are not treated as problems, but as information.
How it helps
From overwhelm toward regulation
Regulation
A gentler pace
The work is not about pushing into intense experiences. It is about noticing what is manageable and building capacity.
Integration
Felt change
Therapy can move from insight into something the client can sense, regulate and carry into daily life.
Capacity
More room inside
The client can gradually learn to stay with difficult material without becoming overwhelmed by it.
Safety
Noticing what helps
Attention is given to resources, orientation and small signals of settling, not only to what hurts.
Real change often needs to be felt, not only understood.
Common signs
The nervous system may show itself as
Activation
Too much energy
Restlessness, tension, urgency, racing thoughts, irritability or difficulty slowing down.
Shutdown
Too little access
Numbness, heaviness, collapse, disconnection or a sense of being far away from oneself.
Protection
Automatic defense
The system may brace, avoid, control or disconnect before conscious choice appears.
Recovery
Signs of settling
Breath, warmth, orientation, contact and small movements can become signs that the system is finding more room.
First step
Work with mind, body and awareness
Sessions take place in person in Lodz or online, depending on what best supports the client. A first session can help clarify what is happening and what kind of work would be useful.
