What Is Somatic Experiencing?
A body-oriented approach to stress, regulation and the nervous system.
The nervous system matters
Somatic Experiencing pays attention to how stress, overwhelm and unresolved activation live in the body and nervous system. Human beings do not only think their way through difficulty. They also feel, brace, freeze, mobilize, disconnect and recover through the body.
Not forcing catharsis
The work is not about pushing into intense experiences. It is about building capacity, noticing what is manageable and allowing the nervous system to reorganize at a pace that feels safe enough.
Why thinking alone may not be enough
A person can understand why they react strongly and still feel unable to stop. Somatic work can help bridge the gap between intellectual understanding and lived regulation.
