What Is Gestalt Therapy?

A calm introduction to a therapeutic approach based on awareness, presence and contact.

More than explaining the past

Gestalt therapy helps a person become more aware of what is happening in the present moment. This includes thoughts, emotions, body sensations, impulses, relational patterns and the ways someone interrupts or protects themselves.

Why awareness matters

Many people already know a great deal about their problems. They can explain their history, name their patterns and describe what they should do differently. But insight alone does not always create change. Gestalt therapy works with direct awareness so that the person can experience the pattern as it happens.

A practical depth approach

The work can be emotional, relational and very concrete. It may help with repeated relationship conflicts, inner blocks, difficulty making decisions, emotional avoidance or the feeling of living at a distance from oneself.

Next step

Bring the question into a session

Reading can clarify language and direction. A focused session can help connect these ideas to what is actually happening in your life, body and relationships.
